Out West 2015

The Grand Canyon

After settling in our room, late Saturday evening, the first thing we did was head for one of the world’s seven wonders: the Grand Canyon.

We hiked about 1/2 a mile down the Bright Angel Trail before we decided to turn back.

Sunday we explored many of the points around the Grand Canyon rim.

Monday we explored more points and hiked a bit.

Tuesday our goal was to hike part of the Bright Angel Trail. We all hiked down to the first rest station, which is one and a half miles down into the canyon, but our group split after taking a much needed break. The girls, Mom, Ansa, and me, decided to head back while the boys, Dad and Haydn, wanted to hike to the three mile rest station.

We began our hike at 1:15 PM (Mountain Time) and finished around 5:00 PM. It felt so good to feel the strong winds of the canyon rim once again blowing in our faces. We returned to our room, refreshed, and then went back out to catch a bus. Right when the bus pulled up, Dad and Haydn appeared at the trail head. While Dad returned to our room, Haydn came with us to watch the sunset.

On the way back, we were crammed into the bus like sardines. It was quite a fun experience, since my siblings and I have never been on a bus that packed before.

After a long exhausting day, we were very thankful for a bed to rest our weary bodies. I can’t wait to see what adventures await us in Phoenix, Arizona!
